The official State Department position is to support ECFA so any activism against this service/trade pact that the Ma government deem disruptive will also be frowned upon by the U.S. Agreeable to both sides means PRC and ROC (under Ma). Ma's undemocratic means to this end does not matter to the U.S. Hence the endorsement by Brown and Bush with the patronizing "support of democracy" statement by State. Enough of this charade! Are Taiwanese really that gullible? Our only effort here is through the U.S. Congress but many members have already been lobbied by TECRO. Think Tanks are sold in the open market and the ROC is a valued customer. Of course, our pride and joy are the activist students who are sacrificing everything for democracy! Thank God of this blessing!

State will take NO ACTION in support of the students' activism. State will continue to pay lip service for supporting democracy. It will be up to Congress as to how far it is willing to push the administration. Russell's statement tells it all. Support for Ma's reducing tensions is abundantly clear.
Pacific Times has revived the legal defense fundraising for the students. Funds raised may be used for ads in major media throughout the US. Don't waste valuable time and money lobbying the State Department. Focus on the Congress and public awareness in the US.
